Anthropology Coastal Retreat 2018

To the ANU anthropology community

We are pleased to announce that the anthropology Kioloa coastal retreat will be happening this year – Hurrah!

*Anthropology PhD students and staff from across the ANU’s schools and departments are invited*

The anthropology coastal retreat has been something of a tradition for many years now. The weekend together – both socialising and engaging academically in anthropology – is a rare opportunity for us to re-affirm/re-articulate our collegial community and to, crucially, welcome and begin the training of our first year PhD students. It is always a formative and rewarding experience for all those involved. So please, come along!

The retreat will take place from Friday 25 – Sunday 27 May at ANU’s Kioloa Costal Campus (approx. 2.5 hour drive from Canberra).

Anthropology staff from CAP and CASS have worked hard to secure funding for this year’s retreat – we say a huge thank you to those involved. As per previous years, we will need to supplement the funding with a fee of $50 for PhD students and $100 for staff. This will secure accommodation, catering and petrol reimbursement to those offering lifts.

For now, we need to confirm the numbers of people attending – can I please ask you to:

1.       Contact me – joanne.thurman@anu.edu.au<mailto:joanne.thurman@anu.edu.au> – to confirm your attendance and include the following information:

*         Whether you are a staff member, first or later year student, and your school/department

*         Will you need a lift to Kioloa? OR can you offer transport to others and if so how many? (you must have a current drivers licence and a registered, insured vehicle)

*         Do you have any dietary requirements?

*         Do you want to bring your own towel and bedding or pay an extra $27+GST for a linen pack?

2.       Pay your fee by the deadline of Wednesday 21 March. Contact Helen Abbott – helen.abbott@anu.edu.au<mailto:helen.abbott@anu.edu.au> – to organise payment (exact amount in cash please – $50 for PhD students; $100 for staff)

Later, I will be in touch with more logistical information as well as the program of workshops to be held over the Saturday and part of Sunday. Our aim is to design the program of workshops to fit the student make-up of those attending – we may have more 3rd/4th year students than 1st years, in which case we will take this into account.

We are also aware that some first years may not have started yet, or may not be on this mailing list – if you know of any please feel free to forward this email, or let me know.
In any event, they will be able to sign up later as well.

On behalf of the organising committee,
Regards
Jo
