Master class on Working Across Disciplines with Ethnography: Reflecting upon Disciplinary and Transdisciplinary Scholarship (26 Sep)

Last semester, you might remember, Prof Heather Horst<https://sydney.edu.au/arts/staff/profiles/heather.horst.php> (University of Sydney) was going to present a master class for HDR candidates and Early Career Researchers, but her plans changed due to illness. The good news is, we have re-scheduled her events, and she will be giving the Wednesday morning seminar on 26 September. And, that afternoon, she will be giving the master class. Here are the details:

26 September, 2:00 – 4:00 pm, Crawford Building seminar room 3

Description: Anthropology remains a fundamental discipline in the social sciences whose methods and theories have captured the attention of scholars and practitioners outside of the discipline. This workshop will draw upon 15 years of research working within and across disciplines (ranging from anthropology, education, communication, media studies, sociology, design and others) to explore the ways in which anthropology and ethnographic approaches both challenge and enable disciplinary and interdisciplinary research.

Bio: Heather A. Horst is Professor of Media and Communications at the University of Sydney. A sociocultural anthropologist, she researches material culture, mobility, and the mediation of social relations, especially through digital media and technology. Heather’s books on these themes include The Cell Phone: An Anthropology of Communication; Hanging Around, Messing Around and Geeking Out: Kids Living and Learning with New Media; Digital Anthropology; Digital Ethnography: Principles and Practices; and The Moral and Cultural Economy of Mobile Phones: Pacific Perspectives. Her current research, supported by the Australian Research Council, explores transformations in mobile, social and locative media practices in Australia, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.
