Dear colleagues,
Please join us today at 4pm for our final anthropological film screening of 2019. We are screening the acclaimed Leitis in Waiting<https://www.leitisinwaiting.com/> (2018), which documents the stories of Tongan transgender women.
This is the story of an intrepid group of transgender women fighting a rising tide of religious fundamentalism and intolerance in their Pacific Kingdom. The film follows Joey, a devout Catholic of noble descent, as she organizes a beauty pageant, provides shelter for a young contestant rejected by her family, and spars with evangelicals threatening to criminalize the leitis’ lives.
Light refreshments provided.
The film will be screened in the Tea Room on the Ground Floor of the Banks Building<https://goo.gl/maps/CVui5oBoGW8EXTHf6> (Linnaeus Way).
